US licenses first nuclear reactors since 1978 February 9, 2012 1:11 pm bowser

This, I think, is good news.

There’s no doubt they can be built to be safe, both while running normally and in an emergency.  The reaction to a fault can be taken out of man’s hands, and computer circuit boards, and left to matters of simple physics.

Getting rid of the waste is a problem which has been solved, too, into the unforeseeable future.

What’s left, to my way of thinking, is the emotional reaction of people who have some very good reasons for being afraid of the things, and not trusting the companies or government to necessarily have their best interests at heart.  That will have to be an educational process.  The problem is they both lie so much that a rational person can’t trust them, either.
